In this seminar, we will consider the potential value and limitations of graphic narratives as texts for students in secondary schools. In the workshop and on this page, I will offer activities and materials that have worked well for teachers who are incorporating graphic narratives into their classrooms. I hope that we will have an interactive session in which all participants will draw from their experience to contribute to the discussion.

The rationale includes curriculum suggestions and activities for teaching this lovely coming-of-age story as well as supporting arguments for including it in a curriculum. Teachers are advised of ways to address topics that some people might find objectionable. It is one of 108 titles from the CD Rationales for Teaching Graphic Novels ed. by James Bucky Carter and published by Maupin House in the US.
